In addition to my professional work in transportation engineering, I have spent years effectively advocating alongside community members for safer streets in Scarborough Southwest and across the entire city.
-
After a high schooler was killed in a collision outside of Birchmount Collegiate, I put together a petition highlighting improvements that should have been made at this intersection.
-
I wrote an op-ed in the Bluffs Monitor calling for a safer Kingston Road: “It’s Time to Transform Kingston Rd”
-
I made a video about how dangerous Birchmount Rd is along a 1 km stretch from Danforth Ave to Danforth Rd to educate and pressure elected officials to take action.
- I have successfully pushed City Council to expand the highly-effective, life-saving automated speed camera program:
- “We should be following the evidence and thinking a lot more boldly.” — Kevin Rupasinghe, Toronto Star
- “Speed is a huge factor in whether or not somebody survives a collision… by not placing these cameras on the most dangerous streets to begin with, there are very likely actual lives that will be lost or changed forever.” — Kevin Rupasinghe, Globe and Mail
-
I’ve organized memorial walk events on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims alongside Friends and Families for Safe Streets.
-
I wrote an op-ed in the Toronto Star calling for serious political leadership on safer streets: “Until Vision Zero becomes a priority, it’s hard not to think ‘Am I next?’”
-
I am a co-founder of the grassroots advocacy group Danforth Kingston 4 All, calling for safety improvements along Danforth Ave & Kingston Rd
-
I regularly report and follow up with 311 dangerous situations, whether crumbling roads, missing paint, or broken streetlights.
-
I have worked with members of City Council, the Mayor’s office, City staff, and more to successfully push for safer street measures all across Toronto.
Let’s work together to make our streets safer, for everyone — will you join me?
