It's Time to Expand Car Share Citywide

Toronto has really outdated and unfair rules about on-street permit parking for Scarborough, North York, and Etobicoke residents, and these rules also prevent car share from operating in these areas (see picture below).

Fortunately, this Wednesday (June 11) is a key vote on Toronto’s Strategic Parking Framework which would:

• Expand on-street free-floating car-share parking outside of permit parking areas
• Identify initial list of residential areas that should allow permit parking
• Provide more dedicated car-share parking in off-street lots, especially in areas where residential permit parking is at 100% capacity
• Protecting car-sharing spots in new developments once approved by City Council

The primary focus of these car share changes is so the Free-Floating Car-Share program will become more accessible to residents living in Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke-York areas of the city.

Expanding the car share program citywide is a great step forward to a more affordable city, with less congestion, healthier residents, and a city that is fairer and more sustainable. It is also a great step towards making permit parking fairly accessible to everyone in Toronto. 

Please write in before Wednesday so that City Council adopts these improvements!
